- Proper Planning for hazard identification and control that is documented in a Risk Register and Operational Risk Matrix.
- Implementing controls that seek to eliminate, substitute, engineer, or isolate the risk in order to minimize the exposure.
- Utilize proper assessment tools, such as Job Hazards Analysis and Task Observation techniques.
- Promote use of leading indicators and tasks when setting objectives and targets.
Excellence in Sustainability:
- Formal reviews of permanent, temporary and emergency changes.
- Systematic and consistent approaches to selection, management, and monitoring contractor performance.
- Promoting safe behaviors and promoting fitness for work.
- Identifying, monitoring and managing opportunities to reduce hazards.
- Using Management Reviews to assess systems and performances to ensure effectiveness, communication and drive the operation.

- Developing plans, response processes and resources to minimize injury, property damage or harm to the environment during an unplanned event.
- Using cross-functional teams and community organizations in Crisis Management exercises to develop best practices during an emergency; to assess preparedness; and develop appropriate triggers for notification and activation.
- Providing appropriate facilities, equipment, and services that ensure prompt and effective treatment of injuries and illnesses.
