On Saturday, October 19, 2019, OceanaGold’s Haile Gold Mine employees and their family members celebrated another successful year at the company’s annual Family Day.
“This is a great opportunity to thank our employees for their dedication and hard work, and allow them to showcase the big machinery, snake pits, and scale of the Haile operation to their family members who normally only hear about the large-scale work on site,” said Jim Whittaker, executive general manager.
Guests climbed all the way up into the cab of some of the largest trucks at Haile. One team member’s mother told us, “I can’t believe my son drives this every day!”
From cotton candy, to delicious chocolate “gold coins,” to a full cook out, there was a “gold mine” of good food and good fellowship. And this year, entire families were able to go on guided tours of the Haile Gold mine and see the operation up close a personal.
“Bunch of fun, food, games, children, lots of excitement. Brought my wife out so we’re going to take another tour today and I told her there are going to be more exciting things than you’re going to see this time than years past. So, she’s excited to see what’s developed within a year,” said Melvin Sowell, in the exploration department.
“I appreciate it, as an employee here. I love Family Day. I just think it’s an all-around great thing. I hope they never stop doing it,” said Robbie Reed, an in-field trainer/operator.
We’d like to issue a big thank you to all of the employees who helped make this celebratory day a success. We are grateful for each and every Haile Gold Mine employee and family member.
