Haile Gold Mine Volunteer Assists Kershaw County Habitat for Humanity fundraiser

Haile Gold Mine Projects Administrator Adrienne Carroll recently volunteered to assist with the Kershaw County Habitat for Humanity golf tournament fundraiser in Camden.

The golf tournament featured 23 teams, with proceeds from entry fees going directly to the local Habitat chapter. Additional donations came from individuals and companies like Haile.

“I was fortunate to be a part of this event and appreciate that Haile Gold Mine contributed to such a great cause,” Carroll said.

Carroll’s participation was inspired by a personal connection: Her father, Tim, is chairman of Kershaw County Habitat for Humanity and has been a volunteer for the organization for more than six years. His leadership opened the door for Adrienne to also get involved, and she has joined him for multiple sponsorship events over the years.

The local Habitat for Humanity group was founded in 1992 and has built 42 houses since it started. Carroll said she fully supports the program’s cause.

“They help people through every step of home ownership,” Carroll said. “They start with teaching how to build the house, and then educate the soon to be homeowners on mortgages, finances, upkeep and so on.”

Carroll recalls with particular fondness participating in one of the most rewarding experiences for a Habitat volunteer: a home dedication. During a ribbon cutting ceremony, the homeowner is presented with the keys to the home. Carroll said that experience is what influenced her to get more involved in the program.

This year marked Haile Gold Mine’s first sponsorship of the Kershaw County Habitat for Humanity golf tournament event. Local churches and businesses provide more than 50 percent of the funding and volunteer work for housing projects.
